TERM 4
SPECIATION
ADAPTION AND NATURAL SELECTION
Adaptation is the action where organisms progress to have some traits/characteristics that helps them survive in a specific ecosystem. Adaptation could be classified into three different ways. Structural, where their physical attributes and abilities actually have an advantage such as being more efficient. Chemical , where they have chemicals in their body in order to survive. And behaviour where the animals will either imitate other organisms or try to go camouflage to their environment and surroundings.
Natural Selection is the theory which is basically stating that organisms that has adapt better towards their surroundings will have a better chance of surviving in the short and long run.Natural selection would be concluded based on these four statement. The four rules include variation in the population, survival between the different variations, inheritance and advantages of each variation.

COSMOS VIDEO REVIEW
The video we watched during our first meeting in term 4 was basically about evolution. At first, the video explained how wolves gradually evolve to the dogs we are familiar with nowadays. At the start, people back in the days would keep the wolves that are tameably and kill of the ones that were still aggressive. Eventually as time goes by, the animals would be more tameable and less aggressive.
The video also explained about how different species were created. There are basically two ways of doing so. The first one is called artificial selection where the breadable selections were picked and done by humans. An example of artificial selection is the presence of breeds in dogs. The other way of creating species is done naturally. Natural selection is basically done due to a mutation that made a separation between a species. The mutation usually provides a slight advantage when compared to the original species therefore creating a seperation and the original species extinct in the area where the advantage of the mutation is really important.
During the last sections of the video, the presenter was basically saying that we humans are basically connected with many other species and organisms present on earth. All organisms were created from the same organism that eventually mutates and evolves, meaning every organism present on earth basically has the same original ancestors making our DNA very similar with each other. The video also discussed about how there are probably millions of unknown species present on earth and there are also species who eventually had to face extinction.

TERM 3
REFLECTION
During this term in biology class, we learned about a couple of topics that basically under theme of ecology. The first thing we learnt about during this term in biology was ofcourse ecology. Followed by ecology was the organisms and how these organisms energy flow between other organisms and their surroundings. We then learned about the classifications that all organisms have. Basically we learned about organism's least and most detailed classification classes(We also learned about how these classification names were made). During the middle of the term, we learned about all of the available types of ecosystems that was present in the world. During this period of time was the actual time where we get to actually start working on our terrariums which was our project for the term. The end of the term was starting to get close and we still had a topic to learn about which was the biogeochemical cycles that was present on earth. After learning about that, we ended our term by making a poster that was later used to present about our terrariums during science fair.
TERM 2
REFLECTION
1. What did you learn in detail in term 2?
In the very beginning of term 2, we learnt about geneticly inherrited diseases and how it is passed down through offsprings. In this topic, we learnt about alleles, punnett squares and how to read certain pedigrees. A little while after learning about that, we continued our biology discussion to a new topic called meiosis. A method of cell division that is quite similar to mitosis (Which we learned about in term 1 ) but also different in a lot of ways at the same time. The significant difference between both methods of cell division is the amount if time it is being divided and the amount of chromosome it is divided into. After wrapping up about meiosis, we moved into a larger and more detailed biology topic which is the human body system . We had simple discussions about all 11 human body systems but we went ahead into detail for only 4 of them. 4 of the body system includes : The Immune System, Endocrine System, Circulatory System and the Nervous System.
2. What was the most interesting thing that you learned in term 2?
In my personal opinion, the topic that I am most interested about in this term was the Immune System from the body systems of Human. I find this topic really interesting due to the fact that this system is pretty complicated but really enjoyable to be explained about. This particular body system contains lots of different organs and it could be made into an analogy which is similar to something like a war.
3. What was hard about the topic that you learned in term 2?
I was struggling a little bit in the topic of meiosis due to the fact that i wasn't present in the classes where the class was discussing about this topic. I had to miss 2 classes(including one block time) due to a sickness i had when my class were learning about this and so i had to learn about this on my own, searching tiny bits of information form my friends that was present in the class and from researching on the internet.
4. What could you have done better in term 2?
I could have done better in communicating with my group mates for the project and attendance. My project could have been done better in alot of ways i was better at communicating with all my project group members, i also would have learned about meiosis in more detailed if i was present during the classes i missed due to a sickness i had to go through while my classmates were learning about this topic.
